September 24.TRILLIUM GRANT RECOGNITION

While only in the planning stage, we are looking at having the required Trillium Grant Recognition ceremony prior to the Men’s and Women’s Pairs Event on September 24, 2022. This event is meant to officially recognize the Ontario Trillium Foundation and its funder, the Government of Ontario, for their grant.

With this grant of $32,500, we have been able to completely replace the roof on the clubhouse, replace the equipment shed and install the new mandated back-flow valve into our clubhouse. All but the back-flow valve work has been done.  We feel that it is a good time to bring in our MPP, Joel Harden and show him the excellent work that has been done and how it will provide for a better clubhouse experience for our members and guests. It will go a long way to maintaining the green space at the corner of Byron and Golden.

There will be an opportunity for a photo and chat with our guests.

OTHER NOTES

GOVERNOR GENERALS.

Many of you have inquired about the results of the Governor General Tournament. The format for the GG’s is cumulative points. Therefore, while play was equal with each side winning two and losing two games, Quebec women’s team had a total 59 points to win the Rose Bowl, against Ontario’s 44 points.

The Ontario men won the Willingdon Cup 59 points to Quebec’s 29, winning three of four games.

The Ontario Women’s Singles Novice, Judy Vincent of Elmdale, won 21/10

Nick Alderman of Highland Park, Ontario Men’s Singles Novice, played a great game: at the 5th he was down 3/4, at the 10th 9/10, he continued to gain until the 16th end he had 18/14, then his opponent won the next 3 ends for 21 points over Nick’s 18. This was a very close singles game.

The full results can be found on the Latest News page of our website.

Tessa.

This is one of the thank yous.

Just wanted to drop you, Heather and the Highland Park Club a big thank you for the outstanding job hosting the Governor General’s tournament.

Everything was well organized and conducted in a professional manner.

The day was most enjoyable and definitely a great success.

Again thanks on behalf of the Ontario team.

DISTRICT 16 HOLLIS TOURNAMENT.  Cancelled.

We were sorry to learn of the cancellation of this Tournament by its sponsor. However, we are most fortunate to have found a very generous new sponsor in the form of Magnolia Construction. The new tournament will be known as The Geno Peloso Memorial Cup.   It will first be held in 2023.

We look forward to a long and successful relationship with Joey Peloso and Magnolia.

BANQUET.

In view of the still simmering pandemic, your Board has decided not to hold the annual banquet that, before Covid, had been held in previous years in a restaurant in the Fall.

The Playdown/Qualifier for this event is on August 13 and 14 at Galetta Lawn Bowling Club. Good luck to Highland Park’s men’s and women’s fours and those entered in the Singles. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Our AGM will be held on Monday, September 19th at 6.45 for 7 p.m. via Zoom.  We urge all members to attend, as quorum (50%+1 of all Full Playing Members) is needed for any decisions at this very important meeting.

Members will elect our new Board for 2022-2023 at this meeting.  Most current Board members have served for at least 3 years, and any organization needs new leaders with fresh ideas.

Full information on the AGM will be sent to current members next week.
